Understand Complex Ovarian Cysts
Although complex ovarian cysts are not very common but some women do get them. These cysts cause a lot of anxiety and pain for the sufferer.
Detection of these cysts is done using an ultrasound scan of the pelvic region. Complex ovarian cysts may not only have fluids inside them but also solids. After the initial detection further tests may be performed to rule out any cancerous growth.
Timely treatment should be done for these cysts in order to avoid any further complications and discomfort.
These cysts can be further classified into three broad types – dermoid, endometrioma and cystadenomas.
The dermoid ovarian cysts have solids and fluids inside them. Elements like tooth, bones, cartilages, tissues, hair and other such elements may be there inside. The cyst may be almost like a human fetus because the cells that help in development of the human egg are responsible for the formation of these cysts.
Because these cysts can grow large in size they can twist the ovaries and stop blood supply. There can be considerable ovarian cyst pain also because of the size. Dermoid ovarian cysts should be treated at the earliest.
Second in the list of complex ovarian cysts are the endometrioma. In this type of cyst one may see the uterine cells grow outside the uterus.
The cyst can grow almost to the size of a grapefruit. Because of the growth outside the uterus the cyst can apply pressure on other nearby organs and cause pain.
One may also experience pain during menstrual cycles and or during sexual intercourse. Early treatment is the best way to overcome this type of cyst.
The third type of complex ovarian cyst is called the cystadenomas. This type has several other variations. In terms of size these cysts may be approximately 5 to 10 inches in diameter. Normally this type of cyst is filled with fluids and mucus. If left untreated for long can lead to complications.
